  1. Day 1

    Arusha to the Serengeti

    Leave Arusha for the Serengeti, travelling into northern Tanzania’s wildlife country for the first stage of this short safari. The landscape opens into grassland punctuated by rocky kopjes and wooded drainage lines, with game viewing forming part of the park visit. Watch for grazing herds and the predators that share their habitat, while recognising that wildlife locations vary. The published programme finishes the day with dinner and an overnight at camp in the Serengeti.

  2. Day 2

    Serengeti game viewing and Ngorongoro

    Spend the early part of the day game viewing in the Serengeti before the route continues towards Ngorongoro. This gives another opportunity to observe the plains and their wildlife before exchanging the open landscape for the volcanic highlands. The transfer and the crater-floor visit are separate stages of the itinerary; today’s programme brings you to the conservation area. Settle into the overnight camp arrangement near Ngorongoro, ready for the following day’s crater visit.

  3. Day 3

    Ngorongoro Crater and return to Arusha

    Descend into Ngorongoro Crater in a 4x4 Land Cruiser for game viewing across the caldera floor. Grassland, woodland and wet areas support different animals, making the changing habitats an important part of the visit. The programme includes a picnic-lunch pause before the ascent out of the crater and the onward drive to Arusha. Confirm your final drop-off and any flight arrangements with the team so that the return transfer fits your wider travel plans.

When to travel

Seasonal considerations.

Game viewing across Tanzania is at its most reliable in the dry months, roughly June to October and again in January and February, when the grass is shorter and animals concentrate around permanent water. The long rains fall around April and May and the short rains in November; both bring green country, fewer vehicles and lower rates, at the cost of some unpredictability on the roads. There is no month in which this journey cannot run.
